Hungary 2023 (Day 6)

Hello everyone! We are so excited to share with you all that happened today with our outreaches here.

We had an early start this morning as we traveled north to Margaret Island which lies in the Danube River. The team met up with Peter, a friend of George Markey and a partner in his ministry who focuses on evangelism.

After a meeting with Peter, where he gave us some pointers on evangelism, we had a time of worship and then had the groups of kids split up on the island to spread the good news.

Each team went out in two’s or three’s with a leader. It was amazing to watch the kids take this step of faith and some for the first time. They were boldly approaching strangers and asking them about what they believed about Jesus. The overwhelming response from these conversations was positive. Many people were open to having an open dialogue. We even ran into someone who was born in Hoboken New Jersey! We invited him to church service with us. Pray he comes to Golgota tomorrow. It was amazing to see the kids get out of their comfort zones and share the gospel with people.

Once evangelism was done most of the team went back to the hostel while a group of 7 went to one of George’s fellow servants Tanya’s apartment to help clean it. Tanya hosts many church gatherings and events, so you can imagine the need for some tender love and care.

All while this was happening the Ukrainian team was on their way back. They met early in the morning with Sarah Walker for breakfast. Sarah is a missionary who is serving displaced Ukrainian families and children for over a year. Sarah requested that we would meet with her and just pray for her/with her. The team was impacted by how amazing of a woman Sarah is. She left her comfortable lifestyle in America to become a missionary to refugees and now finders herself serving these children in Ukraine. After spending time with Sarah and taking care of some cleaning projects around the shelter the team had to head back to Hungary. It was a bittersweet goodbye but as a parting gift, we left them with a number of Polaroids that they can have and cherish.

As the day was coming to a close it just so happened that both teams were going to arrive at the hostel at the same time. The teams ended up bumping into each other on the streets of Hungary and everyone embraced as if it’s been weeks. We all head back to the hostel for our debrief meeting and all the kids shared their experiences from the last two days. It was amazing to hear them all share their different perspectives on the ministry they were able to take part in. No matter what team they were on they had a story of how God spoke to them and used them.

After the meeting, we all headed to bed. Tomorrow consists of going to Calvary Golgota for the 11 am service followed by running a soccer outreach with Andrii, a friend of George who helps run events for Ukrainian families. Please keep us in your prayer!
