Today was our last full day in Hungary. After 7 days of consistent ministry, it was time for us to take on an easier pace and enjoy the city of Budapest. We slept in and ate breakfast at 9 am (this is very late in comparison to the rest of the trip)! Maddie Garcia helped curate the schedule for the day and there are so many highlights to share.
First, we stopped by Central Market Hall, which was only a 3-minute walk from the Hostel. This market is filled with local businesses and pop-up shops. This was the best place to get souvenirs and so we decided to do that first and drop off any souvenirs back at the Hostel before starting the walking portion of our day. You can expect some pretty good gifts parents.
After the market, we made our way along the coast of the Pest side of Budapest. On the way, we were able to see many of the historical monuments that Budapest is known for. But before we went on the history tour we went to Madal Cafe for some caffeine to power us through our day.
After getting some much-needed coffee we made our way along the Danube River to take in the breathtaking historical buildings. The kids were blown away at how amazing the buildings were and how they were built so long ago. We interrupted our sightseeing experience to grab some lunch which was followed by a sightseeing boat tour up and down the Danube. It was a much-needed break and rest for our legs with all the walking.
After the boat tour was free time. The kids split up into 3 groups based on how they wanted to spend their free time. The first group went on a hike to oversee all of Budapest, the second went on a huge shopping spree, and the third went to specific stores/locations that they have wanted to go to since arriving.
After free time we all met up for dinner at a restaurant called BohéMtanya for some traditional Hungarian food. After dinner, we went over to the Buda side of Budapest to Fisherman’s Bastion for some of the greatest views in all of Budapest. We stayed there for quite a while taking photos of the city and of each other.
Finally, we ended the night the only way a night should be ended……. Ice cream. We went to Gelarto Rosa for some rose-shaped ice cream. It was such a great time being able to walk through so much of Budapest and enjoy the scenery and quality time together. We headed back to the Hostel and went to bed.
August 1st
Not much to say about this day. We made our flight and got back to NJ at 9 pm bringing an end to our amazing trip to Hungary. It was very bittersweet to say goodbye to Hungary but we are excited to see what the Lord will continue to do through this trip in the future. Thank you for joining us through our journey!
